Bollywood is mourning the loss of one of its most precious gems – legendary star Manoj Kumar, or as the world fondly calls him, ‘Bharat Kumar.’ The legendary star was highly loved for his patriotic movies and stellar performances. The best part was that he was even stronger in real life than the characters he played on the screen. He never hesitated in speaking his mind and has always been a straight shooter. He never thought twice before raising his voice when he found something distasteful. An example of the same was seen when he filed a defamation lawsuit against Shah Rukh Khan and the movie ‘Om Shanti Om’

Manoj Kumar’s controversy with SRK, Eros over ‘Om Shanti Om’

More than a decade ago, Manoj Kumar filed a lawsuit against Shah Rukh Khan and Eros International, the producers of the 2007 hit *Om Shanti Om*. Upon the film’s release, Manoj Kumar expressed his outrage over how he was portrayed in the movie.
Reports state that he felt insulted and announced his intention to file civil and criminal proceedings against the producers, seeking Rs 100 crore in damages.
Although he was promised that the controversial scene would be removed from future versions of the film and that the lead actor himself would apologize, neither of these assurances were fulfilled. Later, the movie was released without removing the scene in Japan, on which, according to a Hindustan Times report, the actor said, “I had forgiven them twice but not this time. They have disrespected me. They also face contempt of court as in 2008 the court had asked them to forever and from all prints and broadcast material, delete those scenes.”

However, later, Manoj Kumar withdrew his case. Manoj Kumar’s attorney, Rizwan Siddique, stated that Shah Rukh Khan had promised Kumar he would remove the offensive scenes and issue an apology, but he did not follow through on that commitment. Furthermore, the scenes intended for deletion reappeared in the new international releases. As a result, the iconic actor Manoj Kumar has chosen to drop the lawsuits, believing that the case did not instill a sense of accountability in Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan.
