Baby hippo boosts Thailand zoo visits, brings focus on endangered species

Moo Deng, a two-month-old pygmy hippopotamus at Thailand’s Khao Kheow Open Zoo, has become an internet sensation after her videos went viral.

The young hippo’s charm has led to a surge in visitors to the zoo in Chonburi.

To manage the increased interest and ensure Moo Deng’s well-being, the zoo has limited viewing times to just five minutes on weekends.

Pygmy hippos are endangered, with only around 2,000 to 2,500 mature individuals left in the wild, facing threats from habitat destruction and hunting for bushmeat.
