Bangladesh: The US expresses “deep concern about ongoing reports of violence.”

Bangladesh: A spokesman for the US State Department expressed worry over violent incidents in Bangladesh, particularly those involving members of political and religious organizations as well as law enforcement personnel.

The United States has raised serious concerns over attacks on members of political or religious groups amid the ongoing unrest in Bangladesh. It has stated that it is imperative that the new government look into all such incidents and credibly provide victims with justice. “The persistent allegations of violence in Bangladesh, especially violence against members of political or religious groups, really worry us. Reports of violence against law enforcement and police equally worry us, a State Department official stated on Tuesday.

We reiterate our demand for a return to calm and for all parties to defuse the situation. The spokeswoman responded to a query by saying, “This is not the time for retaliation or revenge.” He said, “As a friend and partner to the Bangladeshi people, the United States will continue to support Bangladesh’s democratic aspirations and promote respect for human rights for all.”

The press secretary for the White House said what?

Notably, former Bangladeshi prime minister Sheikh Hasina quit and left the nation following weeks of fighting over demonstrations against a jobs quota system that claimed the lives of over 400 people. Karine Jean-Pierre, press secretary for the White House, stated that they are keeping a careful eye on the issue. “We are keeping a close eye on the situation in Bangladesh,” she stated. We have consistently advocated for Bangladesh to uphold democratic rights, and we demand that an inclusive and democratic interim administration be formed.”

“We applaud the army’s display of self-control. We call on all sides to desist from using additional force and to bring about peace as soon as possible,” she continued. “We express our deep concern and sadness about the reports of casualties and injuries over the weekend and past weeks,” the press secretary added. We extend our sincere sympathies to the bereaved and the grieving people.”

“It will be vital for the new government to carefully and credibly investigate all attacks and provide accountability and justice for victims,” she stated.

The Hindu American Foundation responds to the Hindu temple attack

The Hindu American Foundation (HAF) reported that information of similar occurrences, such as the looting and even the burning of Hindu temples, has been received from all around Bangladesh. HAF added in their statement that while it is unclear how much religious minorities are being targeted in the turmoil, the situation is alarming.

Anita Joshi, director of Policy Research at HAF, responded to the reports by saying, “These attacks are heartbreaking but unsurprising.” It is widely known that the Hindu community in Bangladesh had been the focus of years of harassment and discrimination in several areas of the nation before Sheikh Hasina’s government was overthrown.”

“The Bangladesh military is reportedly forming an interim government, and so we urge local law enforcement and military leadership to ensure the safety of all Bangladesh’s religious minorities, protecting their homes, business, and places of worship in this moment of turmoil,” Joshi stated. She went on to say, “The HAF has also called on the US State Department to work with Bangladesh’s military leaders and the interim government to immediately protect religious minorities from violence as the country seeks to restore order.”
