“A good meeting with Adel Al-Jubeir, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia this morning. Shared India’s perspective on firmly countering terrorism,” said External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar after meeting with Mr. Al-Jubeir. Sources have indicated that Mr. Al-Jubeir’s visit was unannounced and took place specifically in the context of the spike in tension between India and Pakistan.
Mr. Jaishankar will hold a meeting with his Iranian counterpart at 12:30 p.m. today (May 8). Mr. Araghchi paid a day-long visit to Pakistan on Monday (May 5) and has called for dialogue between Islamabad and New Delhi to de-escalate the situation that spiralled after the deadly April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that left 26 individuals killed and dozens wounded.

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar had also spoken to Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal Bin Farhan after India assured action following the Pahalgam terror attack.
Unconfirmed reports have suggested that Indian and Pakistani forces have exchanged projectiles during early on Thursday (May 8) morning that have hit Lahore and Amritsar. However Indian official sources have told The Hindu that the noises heard in Amritsar were part of a “drill”.
In the meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs has confirmed that ceasefire violation by Pakistan military has left 13 Indians dead in Poonch. That apart, the attacks have led to 59 non-fatal injuries to Indian citizens, most of whom are also in Poonch.
