Former US President Donald Trump expressed his dissatisfaction with the negative political ads aired against him on Fox News and said that he would appeal directly to Rupert Murdoch to remove them from the network.
During his interview with Fox and Friends, Trump suggested that the network should refrain from playing such ads.
“In the old days, you never played negative ads.In other words, when I leave here, I’ll then be hit by five or six ads. When I leave, I’ll have 12 people from Kamala on, and pretty much unopposed. For 19 days, I don’t think we should do that anymore. I think you shouldn’t play negative ads. It’s very tough.”
The Republican nominee, who admitted to enjoying complaining, added, “You do a show — and I complain all the time. I love complaining. I like to have everything perfect. But when I leave here … it’s sort of a net neutral.”
Trump also said that he is planning to meet with Fox Corp founder Rupert Murdoch on Friday over the ads aired on the network.
“I’m going to see Rupert Murdoch,” he said. “I don’t know if he’s thrilled that I say it … and I’m going to tell him something very simple … don’t put on negative commercials for 21 days and don’t put on … they’re horrible people that come on and lie. I’m going to say, ‘Rupert, please do it this way.'”
Despite being a regular presence on Fox News for interviews, town halls, and other appearances, the GOP presidential nominee has been critical of the network’s coverage and programming for months.
Earlier, Trump also criticized Murdoch, referring to the billionaire as a “globalist” who is attempting to undermine him.
Murdoch, now 93, stepped back from his role as chair of Fox Corp late last year, passing control of the media company to his eldest son, Lachlan.
