Indian-origin CEO alleges shooting near San Francisco hotel: Regret not taking Uber

An Indian-origin CEO has claimed that he was chased and shot at twice near his hotel in San Francisco. In a post on X, Deeptanshu ‘Deep’ Prasad said while he survived the shooting, he was left “shaking” by the incident.

Prasad said he was walking to his hotel from an after-party around 3.30-4 am on Sunday. He alleged that the attackers chased him to his hotel after firing for the first time. He said when he stepped outside with a hotel staffer, he was shot at for a second time.

Prasad said that both he and the hotel staff heard a glock and that while the staff saw the gun, he himself saw the bullet impacts.

The Indian-origin CEO claimed that the San Francisco Police Department “wrongly misclassified” the attack as a “use of fireworks” case and said it was dangerous to handle such matters with “callousness”.

Regretting not taking an Uber, Prasad stressed that he had never experienced such an attack in 30 years.

“It is my opinion that @SFPD wrongly misclassified this as a use of fireworks case with zero investigation and it is dangerous to treat cases like this with such callousness. The city is dangerous,” his post mentioned.

Prasad alleged that the miscreants could have thrown firecrackers at him to cause harm to him and called for a proper probe into the incident.

“I am happy to be proven wrong. One interesting theory that was suggested to me was that they lobbed fireworks and we couldn’t see them. If that’s the case, a proper investigation will rule this. For now, I don’t rule out it could have been fireworks but I trust myself and hotel staff,” he said.

India Today TV could not independently verify Prasad’s claims of being attacked.

In follow-up posts, Prasad asserted that he would never travel in San Francisco after midnight and regretted not booking an Uber cab to his hotel after attending an after-party. He said he was unharmed and doing okay following the incident.

“(sic) Never going out again in this city after midnight… Was shortly after the after-party! I regret walking back and not Ubering,” he wrote.
