President Donald Trump has managed to create a lot of build up over April 2 which he called America’s ‘Liberation Day’ as the country will put an end to being ripped off and will impose tariff of different measures on its allies and non-allies. Apart from the tariffs he announced on Canada, Mexico and China, the Trump administration will also roll out reciprocal tariffs on other countries but a Politico report suggested that no one has any idea about what they are and how they will be implemented.
This ‘no one’ even includes Vice President JD Vance, chief of staff Susie Wiles and his own cabinet officials, Politico reported adding that all of them privately indicated that they are unsure exactly what the boss will do.
“No one knows what the f**k is going on,” said one White House ally close to Trump’s inner circle. “What are they going to tariff? Who are they gonna tariff and at what rates? Like, the very basic questions haven’t been answered yet.”
In March, the markets nosedived when Trump imposed tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China. A similar shockwave is being anticipated by Trump allies but they are putting a lid to their worries, as of now.
Some countries may get a breather
The White House has not briefed industry stakeholders in the US or abroad. But insiders argue that if they are smart enough, then they should know it was coming as Trump has been talking about it almost every day. On reciprocal tariffs, Trump recently said some countries may not have to give that tax but did not specify anything. The White House, the Politico report said, is safeguarding information so that the markets are not spooked.

Trump threatened Russia that he will impose secondary tariffs of 25 per cent to 50 percent on all Russian oil if Moscow drags its feet in ending the war in Ukraine. On Trump’s 25 per cent tariffs on all foreign-made automobiles, he said he could not care less if automakers raised prices because of that tariff. “I couldn’t care less. I hope they raise their prices, because if they do, people are gonna buy American-made cars. We have plenty,” he said as an aid to the president confirmed that he was referring to foreign car prices.
