A gunman who killed two folks outdoors a Jewish museum in Washington on Wednesday (May 21, 2025) was initially mistaken for a sufferer of the capturing and allowed into the constructing, witnesses mentioned.
“We heard gunshots after which a person is available in and he seems to be actually distressed. People are speaking to him and attempting to calm him down,” Katie Kalisher, who mentioned she was contained in the Capital Jewish Museum when the assault occurred, advised U.S. media.
“Eventually, he comes over to the place I used to be seated, and I used to be actually like ‘do you want any water? Are you OK?'”

Witness Yoni Kalin mentioned {that a} safety guard “occurred to let this man in” the constructing.
“I suppose they had been considering that he was a sufferer,” he mentioned.
“He was in shock, and you recognize, among the folks on the occasion introduced him water. They sat him down. ‘Are you OK? Were you shot? What occurred?’ And he is like ‘anyone name the cops’.”
The man was then detained after he produced a Palestinian keffiyeh scarf from his bag and claimed duty for the capturing, the witnesses mentioned.
“‘I did it. I did this for Gaza,” Kalisher quoted him as saying.

Police recognized the suspected shooter as Elias Rodriguez, 30, from Chicago.
Israel’s Foreign Ministry named the victims as Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Lynn Milgrim, who each labored on the Israeli embassy in Washington.
Israel’s Ambassador to the United States Yechiel Leiter advised reporters the younger staffers had been a pair and that Lischinsky was planning to suggest to Milgrim.
