The first lady of the United States, Jill Biden, began her final solo international trip on Tuesday, visiting four countries over six days. The trip includes stops in Italy, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and finally France for the Notre Dame reopening.The trip focuses on Jill Biden’s key initiatives as first lady: supporting military families, education, cancer research, and women’s health. She is set to highlight US partnerships with each host country in these areas.
Jill Biden’s first stop is naval air station Sigonella in Catania, Italy, where she will meet with military personnel and deliver remarks as part of joining forces. Her father served in the Navy during World War II. She will then visit her ancestral hometown of Gesso in Sicily.
In Abu Dhabi, UAE, Jill Biden will tour Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, focusing on cancer research, and participate in a discussion on women’s health research. She will also meet with Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, a prominent leader in women’s and family issues.
In Doha, Qatar, the first lady will visit the Qatar Foundation and Weill Cornell Medicine – Qatar to highlight education and health partnerships. She will also attend a royal wedding banquet. On Saturday, she will deliver the keynote address at the Doha forum.
The trip concludes in Paris, where Jill Biden will join dignitaries, including President Donald Trump, for the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral.
This marks Jill Biden’s 10th solo international trip as first lady. She has also accompanied her husband and President Joe Biden on several foreign trips. Previous solo trips include leading the US delegation to the Olympics, visiting Ukraine, and attending the inauguration of Mexico’s first female president.
Jill Biden is scheduled to return to Washington on Sunday.
