Mother arrested in fatal stabbing of 11-year-old son in California motel

An 11-year-old boy was found fatally stabbed in a California hotel room on Wednesday, and authorities have charged his 48-year-old mother with homicide in connection to his death.

According to Santa Ana Police Department, officers responded to the La Quinta Inn, a local motel, around 9:30 am, where they found the child with multiple stab wounds. The woman told officials that she had ingested an unknown substance before allegedly stabbing her son several times. She was taken into custody and quickly transported to a hospital.

Natalie Garcia, public information officer with the department, stated, “She remains in custody and in stable condition.”

Boy pronounced dead by authorities

Garcia further stated that the boy had multiple wounds when he was found by first responders. Orange County Fire Authority pronounced the child dead at the scene. “Our officers located a knife that they believe was the weapon used,” Garcia added.

The victim’s and suspect’s names have not been disclosed. However, Santa Ana police urged residents to reach out if they have any information about this homicide. The woman’s last known address was in Irvine, about 85 miles (136 km) from San Diego. The reason behind the mother’s brutal act remains unknown. The case remained under investigation on Thursday.
