Pilot killed after helicopter strikes power line in Ohio

A 52-year-old pilot died after his helicopter struck a power line and crashed into a reservoir in northeastern Ohio on Friday morning.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stated that the helicopter crashed around 7 a.m. in Suffield Township. The helicopter, a Schweizer 269C, went down in the Mogadore Reservoir near State Route 34, according to news agency Associated Press.

Authorities identified the pilot as Anthony Jones of North Royalton. He was the only person on board. Emergency responders deployed boats to the crash site and recovered the pilot’s body shortly after.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash, with assistance from the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
