Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on Tuesday (May 20, 2025) and exchanged views on regional and world developments, asserting that the 2 nations stand united within the combat in opposition to terrorism.

Earlier this month, Conservative chief Friedrich Merz succeeded in becoming Germany’s next chancellor.

“Spoke to Chancellor Friedrich Merz and congratulated him on assuming office. Reaffirmed our commitment to further strengthen the Strategic Partnership between India and Germany,” Mr. Modi mentioned in a submit on X.

“Exchanged views on regional and global developments. We stand united in the fight against terrorism,” he added.

In an announcement later, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) mentioned that throughout the phone dialog, the 2 leaders “reiterated their shared commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms”.

Noting the “excellent progress” within the India-Germany Strategic Partnership over the previous 25 years, the 2 leaders agreed to “work closely to further strengthen bilateral ties, including in the areas of trade and investment, defence and security, and innovation and technology”, it mentioned.

Both leaders famous the “positive contribution” made by the Indian diaspora in Germany, the MEA mentioned in its assertion. It additionally mentioned the 2 leaders exchanged views on regional and world problems with mutual curiosity.
