Days after Islamabad and New Delhi agreed to a ceasefire, Pakistan promoted General Asim Munir to the rank of Field Marshal. The resolution was made throughout a cupboard assembly chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Munir was felicitated in a grand ceremony attended by senior politicians and ministers, together with Nawaz Sharif and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
“Today, we now have gathered to pay our tribute to Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir,” Shehbaz Sharif mentioned on the ceremony.
The solely different individual to carry this rank in Pakistan was General Ayub Khan in 1959, a 12 months after he seized energy in a navy coup.
